Welcome to

My name is Deryk Barker and I currently teach in the Computer Science Department of Camosun College in Victoria, British Columbia.

I teach almost exclusively first year courses for our Computing Systems Technology programme, especially the Introduction to Computer Science and Technology, Computer Architecture Network Programming and Mini Project courses.

My main academic interests are Programming Languages (especially functional and scripting languages) and Design, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems.

Of course, computers are all well and good in their place, but the human race managed for a very long time without them. As far as we know, though, music has always been a part of the human experience. (See quotes at right).

In my "spare" time, I also manage and write reviews for online music site Music in Victoria, and play guitar in Media Circus. (I also used to review CDs for SoundStage! the online audio and music journal, you can still see some of my reviews there.)
